After School Enrichment

DVS PTA is offering the After School Enrichment Program for the 4th consecutive year. And this year all classes are FREE of charge! We hope you will find a course that peaks your child's interest and we'll do our best to place children in the class(es) of their choice.

To enroll in a class, complete the Enrollment-Parental Consent Form and send into school by Monday March 7th. A confirmation letter will be sent home listing the class(es) your child is enrolled in.

Many volunteers are needed to run this program. Volunteers take attendance, sign kids out to parents at the end of class, and provide an extra set of hands for the instructor. Please complete the Volunteer Section on the Introduction Letter, or email Laura Peterson at petski1@myfairpoint.net. Thank you

Course Descriptions

Basketball Grades 4-5
Pinkerton basketball players and Derry Parks and Rec coaches will referee the game. boys and girls with exxperience playing basketball are encouraged to join in the fun! Sneakers are required to play.

Kitchen Creations Grades 3-5 ~$3
For Kids Who Cook of Derry, provides a professional hands-on cooking class that will have you preparing a variety of wonderful meals. Each week students will create a Mexican dish from the Dine ‘N Dash series. Students will bring home scrumptious oven-ready meals to share with the family.

Creative Writing 1 Grades K-2
Welcome to wonderful world of creative writing! This program will guide you in writing and illustrating your own masterpiece based on different weekly themes.

Music Around the World Grades K-2
Preschool teacher and former KinderMusic teacher, Ms. Strout, will lead this toe tapping class as she introduces sounds from around the world. Explore one country or culture a week through music, dance and games. Learn about native instruments and try some out.

Magic Club Grades 3-5
Amaze your friends and family with the magic tricks you will learn from Ms. Gayle of the Derry Public Library. You'll dig deep to uncover some magical secrets hidden in math and science. You'll leave with a a variety of resources to help you continue your discovery into magic. Art with the Currier Gallery Grades 3-5
Students will explore the engaging medium of Fibers by learning to weave and felt. Using high quality wool and weaving yarns in vibrant colors, students will work in 2-D and 3-D to create hand-felted bowls and small tapestries. The class also includes a discussion of tapestries and other fiber works of art from the Currier collection.

Intro to Martial Arts Grades K-5
Tim Barchard’s Professional Marital Arts Studio of Derry will lead kids in drills and games. They will have fun while learning basic Karate skills. No martial arts experience required, but comfortable clothing and sneakers are a must!

Outdoor Exploration Grades K-5
Take a walk in the woods and learn about the plants and wildlife in our school’s backyard! Join the skilled staff of Amoskeag Fishways and embark on a nature expedition of learning and games. Come dressed to be outside!

The Art of Pottery Grades 3-5
Michael Gibbons of Nutfield Pottery will give students a first hand look at the process of pottery making. Students will create pots and tiles out of clay that will be fired, painted, and cherished forever.!

Beading 2 Grades 3-5
Create your own beaded masterpieces using a variety of mediums including polymer clay and memory wire. You’ll take home your own unique pendant, necklace, bracelet and bookmark!

SpringTime Crafts Grades K-2
Use a variety of materials as you create crafts inspired by spring. DVS parent and kindergarten teacher, Mrs. McCrevan will guide students in sculpting, painting, and drawing. Children will take home unique creations each week.

Floor Hockey with Ms. Dorazio Grades 4 and 5 ~ FREE
Join Ms. Dorazio for some full length floor hockey games! Review the basics of the sport and jump into the action! Sneakers required for play.

Creative Play-Writing Grades 3-5
Working in small groups students will collaborate and write a short play. Over the 3 weeks the students will develop their stories, plan their props and rehearse their play. Performances will be held during the final session.

Intro to Sewing Grades 4 and 5
DVS teacher Mrs. Clohecy will teach the basics of sewing by hand and machine. By the end of the session you’ll have made your own original pillow covering.

Lego Challenge Grades K-5
Love Legos? In this course you will work in teams as well as independently to complete Lego building challenges. Develop your team work and problem solving skills while having tons of fun!
